A carpenter bee is a species of bee that received its name because of its nesting habits. Unlike other bees, they bore into wood and create their nests by drilling circular holes and creating tunnels inside wooden structures. They’re also solitary insects and prefer to build individual nests. You can identify a carpenter bee because of its smooth and shiny abdomen that doesn't have yellow markings.
